Hytale Zone 3 Mining Route: Cobalt, Silver, Gold & Iron Cave Path

Best Zone 3 mining route in Hytale using extracted worldgen data. Farm Cobalt, Silver, Gold, and Iron efficiently with Taiga cave bands, Tier 2 cave routes, and mountain passes.

Zone 3 Mining Summary

Best Route

Zone 3 (Whisperfrost Frontiers) is the best all-around mining zone in the game — not because any single ore is dramatically more common here, but because the worldgen stacks more usable placement signals per run than anywhere else. Cobalt, Silver, Gold, and Iron all have meaningful concentrated passes in Zone 3, and many of them overlap in the same Taiga cave networks.

A well-executed Zone 3 route doesn’t just fill one ore stack. It fills four.

For the full ore database, use the Ore Locations Finder. For individual ore guides, see the Resource Locations hub.

A staged Taiga cave route moving through three depth bands:

  • Y 60-120 — Iron density + initial cave system coverage
  • Y 120-200 in Taiga caves — Cobalt biome pass window
  • Y 150-255 — Silver high-altitude band + Tier 2 cave extensions
  • Zone 3-exclusive (confirmed from game files)
  • Taiga cave biome pass at Y 120-200
  • Additional Tier 2 Caves placement

  • Zone 3 default cave range Y 150-255
  • Additional Tier 2 Caves placement

  • Zone 3 cave placement at Y 102-110
  • Zone 3 Taiga surface pass Y 170-350
  • Additional Tier 2 Caves placement

Phase 1: Taiga Cave Entry Sweep (Y 60-120)

Section titled “Phase 1: Taiga Cave Entry Sweep (Y 60-120)”

Prioritize Taiga cave systems as your starting point — the Taiga biome activates the concentrated placement passes for both Iron and Cobalt. Sweep the Y 60-120 band first.

This phase builds your cave system foothold. You’re collecting Iron, positioning for Gold at Y 102-110, and already on the right terrain for Phase 2’s Cobalt descent.

Move through the Y 120-200 depth window while staying in Taiga cave terrain. This is where the Cobalt biome pass concentrates ore density — don’t leave this range prematurely. Keep scanning walls and follow cave branches that stay at this elevation.

Gold at Y 102-110 is still pickable in Phase 2’s upper end, so don’t stop checking cave walls just because you’ve passed your Phase 1 band.

Phase 3: High Cave Sweep + Tier 2 Caves (Y 150-255)

Section titled “Phase 3: High Cave Sweep + Tier 2 Caves (Y 150-255)”

Finish by moving through elevated cave terrain and Tier 2 cave routes. The Y 150-255 band is Silver territory, and Zone 3’s Tier 2 cave placements give extra coverage for Silver, Cobalt, Gold, and Iron simultaneously.

If your cave network includes mountain-adjacent sections, check the Taiga surface for Gold (the Y 170-350 surface pass is real and worth a detour in the right terrain).

Zone 3 is the only place where:

  • Cobalt has an exclusive biome pass (not available anywhere else)
  • Silver’s high-altitude band overlaps mountain cave routes naturally
  • Gold offers both a cave band and a Taiga surface pass
  • Tier 2 caves amplify every ore simultaneously

That combination of features — available nowhere else in Orbis — is why a well-routed Zone 3 run produces more ore value per hour than comparable time in any other zone.

  • Skipping Taiga terrain: The Cobalt biome pass is Taiga-specific; random Zone 3 caves don’t have it
  • Only running one depth band: Zone 3 pays off across three staged phases, not one
  • Ignoring Tier 2 caves: Multiple ores gain extra placement signals there
  • Missing the Gold surface pass: High-elevation Taiga terrain offers surface Gold at Y 170-350 — look up occasionally

What is the best mining route in Zone 3 Hytale?

Section titled “What is the best mining route in Zone 3 Hytale?”

A staged Taiga cave loop: Y 60-120 for Iron entry, Y 120-200 in Taiga caves for Cobalt, then Y 150-255 for Silver with Tier 2 cave extensions. Run it as one connected route through mountain cave systems.

Cobalt (zone-exclusive Taiga pass), Silver (high-altitude), Gold (cave + Taiga surface), and Iron (throughout). Zone 3 is the best all-in-one ore zone in the game.

The Cobalt biome pass, Silver’s high-altitude band, Gold’s dual cave-and-surface signals, and Tier 2 cave bonuses all concentrate in the same zone. No other zone offers that kind of stacked multi-ore density.
