Hytale Cobalt Ore Location Guide: Best Zone, Caves & Height Hints

Where to find Cobalt in Hytale using extracted worldgen data. Learn the best zone, cave routes, and Taiga biome height hints for faster Cobalt farming.

Cobalt Quick Summary

Best Farm Route

Cobalt is the ore that tells you Zone 3 is serious. You won’t find it anywhere else in Orbis — it’s locked to Whisperfrost Frontiers, and the game’s worldgen is surprisingly specific about where it concentrates. That’s actually great news for farmers: it means one clean targeting strategy covers most of your Cobalt needs.

Data on this page is pulled from Hytale’s game asset files, not guesswork. For the full ore database, use the Ore Locations Finder.

Cobalt is a Zone 3-exclusive ore.

  • Region: Whisperfrost Frontiers (Zone 3)
  • Best target: Taiga cave terrain at Y 120-200
  • Additional sources: Default Zone 3 cave veins and Tier 2 cave placements

There are three separate Cobalt placement signals in Zone 3’s worldgen config:

  1. Default Zone 3 cave veins

    • Region: Whisperfrost Frontiers
    • Source: Cave
    • Detail: Default veins (vein column height 25-160)
  2. Zone 3 Tier 2 cave placement

    • Region: Whisperfrost Frontiers
    • Source: Cave
    • Detail: Tier 2 Caves
  3. Zone 3 Taiga biome cave pass

    • Region: Whisperfrost Frontiers
    • Biome: Taiga
    • Source: Cave
    • Height range: Y 120-200

Three separate signals means Cobalt has one of the cleanest route pictures of any mid-to-late game ore. The Taiga biome pass is the star — it’s a concentrated band on top of the baseline cave placements.

  1. Travel to Zone 3 (Whisperfrost Frontiers)
  2. Find large cave systems under Taiga terrain first
  3. Operate mostly in the Y 120-200 band while in Taiga cave areas
  4. Don’t stop when you leave the band — default cave veins and Tier 2 placements fill in the gaps
  5. Prioritize interconnected cave networks over isolated dead-end tunnels

The Taiga biome pass creates a concentrated Cobalt window at Y 120-200 that doesn’t exist in other Zone 3 terrain. Starting there maximizes your ore density before you sweep the broader cave system. Think of Taiga caves as your priority lane, with the rest of the cave network as your fallback.

  • Caves win, surface loses: Cobalt is a cave ore — don’t burn time on surface scouting
  • Taiga terrain is your biome priority: The extra biome pass is real; use it
  • Route for wall exposure: Larger, branching cave systems reveal more eligible surfaces than narrow bore tunnels
  • Don’t stop at one dry cave: Three placement signals across Zone 3 means persistence pays off

Zone 3 cave runs will also turn up:

  • Iron — ubiquitous, useful everywhere
  • Gold — look for the narrow Y 102-110 cave band, plus a separate Taiga surface pass at Y 170-350
  • Silver — biased high at Y 150-255; pairs naturally with mountain cave routes

If you’re specifically after Cobalt, stick to Taiga cave systems first. Use the Ore Locations Finder to compare Cobalt and Gold placement patterns when planning multi-ore runs.

  • Searching outside Zone 3: Cobalt is nowhere else in the extracted default placements
  • Skipping Taiga terrain: The biome cave pass is one of the strongest concentrated Cobalt signals available
  • Giving up after one unproductive cave: Three placement types means you need zone-wide cave coverage, not just one lucky find
  • Treating the Taiga band as the only source: Y 120-200 is the priority, not the only option

In Zone 3 (Whisperfrost Frontiers) — cave placements including a Taiga biome cave pass at Y 120-200, plus default cave veins and Tier 2 cave placements, all confirmed from game files.

What is the best level for Cobalt in Hytale?

Section titled “What is the best level for Cobalt in Hytale?”

Start with Y 120-200 in Zone 3 Taiga caves. That biome-specific window gives you the densest Cobalt concentration. Outside that band, default veins and Tier 2 placements still produce Cobalt throughout Zone 3 caves.

Yes. The extracted worldgen data doesn’t place Cobalt anywhere outside Whisperfrost Frontiers.

Treat Cobalt as a cave-first ore. Surface outcroppings happen where cave terrain breaks through, but cave systems are the reliable farming method.
