Hytale Forgotten Temple Guide: Unlock Memories & Rewards

The Forgotten Temple is one of the most critical early-game locations in Hytale. Visiting this ancient structure unlocks the Memory system—a progression feature that rewards you for bestiary discoveries across Orbis.

Many essential features, including crafting recipes, extra teleporter slots, and inventory upgrades, remain locked until you activate the Heart of Orbis inside the temple. This guide covers how to find the temple, bypass the Earthen Golem, and maximize your rewards.

The Forgotten Temple is automatically marked on your compass upon creating a new world. Look for a pinwheel-shaped icon (a white circle with four arrow shapes) on the navigation bar at the top of your screen.

  • Zone: Emerald Wilds (Zone 1)
  • Distance: Usually a short walk from the initial spawn point.
  • Map Tip: If the marker doesn’t appear, press M to open the full map and wait for the chunks to load.

The entrance is a distinct cross-shaped stone structure featuring a statue and a brazier lit with blue fire. To enter, descend the stairs located directly behind the statue.

Upon entering, you will find a chamber containing two rare chests. Loot these immediately for valuable early-game resources. A blue portal sits at the far end, guarded by the Earthen Golem.

The Earthen Golem is slow but deals heavy damage. You have three strategies to handle this encounter:

  1. Run Past It (Recommended): The golem cannot pass through the blue portal. Simply sprint past it to the exit.

  2. Water Strategy: Lure the golem toward the room’s small pond. Back into the water and attack with a bow; the golem will not follow you into the water.

  3. Push-Blocking: Hold Right-Click to block, then Left-Click to push the golem back. This drains stamina but prevents damage.

Pass through the blue portal and follow the stone path downward. You will arrive at the main chamber containing the Heart of Orbis—a glowing blue statue surrounded by plinths.

Press F on the Heart of Orbis to officially unlock the Memory System.

Memories act as a logbook of every creature in Hytale. As you explore Orbis, the game tracks the fauna you encounter.

  1. Automatic Discovery: Simply being near a creature records it. You do not need to kill or damage the creature.

  2. Submit to Restore: You must return to the Heart of Orbis to “submit” your collected memories.

  3. Unlock Rewards: Submitting memories increases your progress bar, unlocking permanent upgrades.

Inside the temple, look for the Rootling Merchant. They sell rare resources, ingredients, and unique recipes.

  • Restock Timer: The inventory rotates every 3 in-game days. Check back often.

While the Emerald Wilds temple is the first you encounter, other gateways exist across Orbis:

Do I have to kill the Earthen Golem in Hytale?

Section titled “Do I have to kill the Earthen Golem in Hytale?”

No. You can sprint past the golem to reach the portal. Combat is optional, and the golem will not pursue you through the gateway.

Once you unlock additional teleporter slots via the Memory System, you can place a waypoint at the temple entrance for instant access.

If you die, you will respawn at your last save point. The temple remains open, and your progress inside (such as unlocked doors) is saved.

The total depends on the number of unique creatures in the current build of the game. You must explore all zones, including caves and underwater biomes, to complete the log.
