The complete guide to Eternal Seeds in Hytale. Learn drop rates, crafting recipes, and why Eternal crops are essential for profitable farming.
Eternal Seeds are the ultimate goal for any serious farmer in Hytale. Unlike normal seeds that are consumed every time you plant them, Eternal Seeds plant a special crop that regrows indefinitely.
They allow you to build a fully automated farm loop without constantly crafting new seeds. However, they come with a trade-off in yield that you need to understand.
What Are Eternal Seeds?
Section titled “What Are Eternal Seeds?”Eternal Seeds are rare, magical variants of standard crop seeds. They have three distinct features:
- Infinite Regrowth: You plant them once and they regrow forever. You never need to replant.
- No Seed Cost: Since you do not replant, you stop spending Essence on seed crafting.
- Different Yields: Eternal crops drop slightly less Essence of Life per harvest compared to normal crops.
How to Get Eternal Seeds
Section titled “How to Get Eternal Seeds”There are two ways to obtain these seeds. Most players find their first one by luck, but you can also craft them later in the game.
Method 1: Random Drops (The Luck Method)
Section titled “Method 1: Random Drops (The Luck Method)”Every time you harvest a fully grown food or material crop, there is a very small chance it will drop an Eternal Seed for that specific plant.
- Drop Chance: ~0.5% per harvest
- Average Rate: 1 seed every 200 harvests
Method 2: Crafting (The Guaranteed Method)
Section titled “Method 2: Crafting (The Guaranteed Method)”If you have bad luck with drops, you can craft Eternal Seeds at the Farmer’s Workbench. This is expensive and requires a high-level bench.
Requirements: You need a regular seed, a large amount of crops, and Essence of Life.

The Yield Trade-Off
Section titled “The Yield Trade-Off”Before you convert your whole farm, you should know that Eternal crops yield less Essence of Life per individual harvest than normal crops.

Which Crops Have Eternal Variants?
Section titled “Which Crops Have Eternal Variants?”Eternal seeds exist for all food and material crops.
Available Variants: Wheat, Lettuce, Carrot, Corn, Cauliflower, Turnip, Aubergine, Pumpkin, Tomato, Chilli, Cotton, Rice, Potato, Onion.
Unavailable: There are currently no Eternal variants for petal crops (Blood Rose, Azure Fern, Storm Thistle).
Best Eternal Seeds to Use
Section titled “Best Eternal Seeds to Use”If you only have enough resources to craft a few Eternal Seeds, prioritize these (efficiency rates from the Crop Calculator):
1. Tomato (The Speed King)
Section titled “1. Tomato (The Speed King)”Tomato has the fastest regrowth time of any Eternal crop. At +8.7 Essence/hr (or +18.2/hr with crop conversion), it is the undisputed best source of Essence of Life per hour.
2. Chilli (The Runner-Up)
Section titled “2. Chilli (The Runner-Up)”Chilli is the second most efficient Eternal crop at +7.8 Essence/hr (or +14.5/hr with conversion). It shares the same bench tier as Tomato (Tier 5), making it a natural companion crop.
3. Cotton & Rice (High Efficiency + Utility)
Section titled “3. Cotton & Rice (High Efficiency + Utility)”Both Cotton and Rice achieve +6.2 Essence/hr. Cotton is particularly valuable because it provides essential crafting material while earning strong Essence returns.
4. Potato & Onion (The Money Savers)
Section titled “4. Potato & Onion (The Money Savers)”These crops are actually unprofitable to farm with normal seeds because the seeds cost 10 Essence to craft. With Eternal Seeds, Potato becomes excellent—especially with crop conversion enabled (+12.3/hr).
Maximizing Eternal Seed Profits with Conversion
Section titled “Maximizing Eternal Seed Profits with Conversion”Once you have Eternal Seeds, you can further boost your Essence income by converting the harvested crops at the Farming Bench (Essence tab). Since Eternal crops don’t require seed costs, you keep both:
- The Essence dropped during harvest
- The bonus Essence from converting spare crops
Use the Farming Calculator with both “Eternal Seeds” and “Crop → Essence” enabled to see your true maximum profit per hour.
Summary
Section titled “Summary”- Farm for Drops: Harvest your regular crops often to try and get that 0.5% drop.
- Don’t Replant: Once you plant an Eternal Seed, leave it there forever.
- Accept Lower Yields: You get slightly less Essence per harvest, but you save massive amounts of Essence by not crafting seeds.
- Convert Spare Crops: Turn harvested vegetables into bonus Essence at the Farming Bench.
- Prioritize Tomato & Chilli: Tomato (+8.7/hr) and Chilli (+7.8/hr) are the most efficient Eternal crops for farming Essence of Life.
